Garnet and Diamond Ring

A striking cocktail ring featuring a large round cut hessonite garnet estimated at 5.5 carats, claw set in platinum with stepped baguette diamond shoulders. Hessonite is the honey to cognac coloured variety of grossular garnet, sometimes called the cinnamon stone, and this example shows that rich warm brown with flashes of orange fire when the light hits it right. The stepped shoulder design with graduated baguette cut diamonds is pure Art Deco in spirit, creating that architectural look that frames the centre stone beautifully. The combination of warm garnet against cool platinum and white diamonds is unexpected and works brilliantly. At 6 grams with a substantial centre stone, this ring has real presence without being gaudy. Size L½.
