A Victorian gold, rose cut diamond and black enamel fob watch, Swiss in origin and signed Rossel-Baratte & Cie, Genève. The circular case is decorated to the reverse in black enamel over an engine turned ground scattered with fine gold pellets, centred with a Gothic initial beneath a coronet, both set throughout with rose cut diamonds.
The white enamel dial carries black Roman numerals with an outer minute track and steel hands. The cuvette is engraved Rossel-Baratte & Cie, A Genève, Aiguilles No. 77225, Échappement à Cylindre, Huit Trous en Rubis, denoting a key wound cylinder escapement with eight ruby jewels. The watch is set and wound by key.
It is suspended from a long muff chain of navette shaped links, each enamelled in black and decorated with gold pellets to match the case, fitted with a swivel clip. The chain carries two conforming accessories, a gold cased intaglio seal set with a carnelian and a decorative watch key with matching black enamel terminals.
The piece presents with losses and chips to the black enamel consistent with age and wear, and light surface scratching to the gilt cuvette. The metal is unmarked and untested for fineness. Total gross weight 66.13 grams, including movement, chain, key and seal.
