A fine late Victorian sapphire and diamond ring in 18ct yellow gold, featuring an oval-cut sapphire of rich deep blue colour flanked by six old-cut diamonds arranged in graduated trios on each shoulder. The sapphire is claw-set in a classic raised mount that allows light to enter from beneath, enhancing its depth of colour.
The old-cut diamonds are set in a traditional stepped arrangement, with the largest stones nearest the sapphire and the smallest at the outer edges of each shoulder. Their chunky faceting and warm fire are characteristic of hand-cut stones from the period and complement the intensity of the sapphire perfectly.
